“Belonging means that I'm not an outsider. That I can walk in anywhere and not be cast aside.”
— Saren
Everybody should have access.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I've done a little bit of everything. I was a computer programmer in the eighties
Othering is something I've understood all my life. Because I was an other. I was the wrong religion, the wrong gender, working in a computer field as a woman was just not right. I wanted to be an architect. My father didn't allow it. And now they're trying to get women and minorities into the architectural world. So othering is shunning. Othering is prejudice, and usually largely unfounded..
I am handicapped, and I am not unable to interact in the world. So I think everybody should have access to the same experiences. And if I project participation in life, even though I've got this disability, that's a good thing.
Well, I've only been here two months. So I would like to build into the community. I think once I can garden and people are walking down the street, walking their dogs and staying safely apart but not hidden, and it's not such inclement weather, I'll get to know the neighbors pretty quick. Gardening usually gets people out.
